Softball All-Stars Information:

All-Stars is an incredible opportunity to extend the playing season and play at a higher level, but it is also a big commitment.  Most teams practice every day after announcement of teams until the first tournament..  If a team wins the District 9 Tournament then the journey continues to the State Tournament and practices continue.. For Majors and Juniors there is the potential to go all the way to the Softball World Series. The District 9 tournament always approaches quickly so most teams will practice while the LWSD school year is still in session. This year both the Majors and Juniors tournaments start June 19th.

As with other leagues in District 9, Redmond West Baseball and Redmond softball will require a registration fee payable after player selection on a team.  The fee for 2023 All-Stars will be  $175 per player. These funds are used to pay for All-Star expenses such as, uniforms for players and coaches.  Redmond Softball teams may also participate in one or two preparatory tournaments prior to the District 9 Tournament. This will require additional tournament fees and/or travel expenses for families. Typically, preparatory tournaments occur in Eastern Washington and require overnight stays. The registration fee must be paid prior to receiving team uniforms.

For families new to Little League, All-Stars can be a lifestyle changer. Your family’s annual vacation might conflict with the tournament dates.  While there’s obviously no guarantee that our teams will progress beyond the District 9 tournament (although our teams are usually competitive). We have to honor Little League and the game of softball by being able to field teams until they are eliminated, so keep these dates in mind when evaluating your All-Stars commitment.

Softball league age is dependent on the month and year of birth.  Please use the age chart on our softball page to determine your child's softball age.

Players must be a least Softball 8 and have played in AAA or higher in the current Little League season, to be eligible for All-Stars.

Selection to All-Stars

Players are selected to All-Stars by the Tournament Team Committee, consisting of the Managers of the applicable age divisions All-Star Team, the VP of Softball, and the Softball Player Agent.

The following are criteria for participation in All-Stars:

  • Letter of Player Commitment, must submitted by the player and guardian/parent indicating an interest and commitment to attendance and local travel for tournament play.  To be considered for all-stars, player commitment statements must be submitted before the deadline posted above.
  • Player’s good standing with respect to minimum number of Little League games played in the 2023 regular season (teams must play 12 or more games, players must play at least 8 games).
  • Evaluation of the skills and abilities of each player who submits a Letter of Player Commitment, via the following:
    • Observations of the player’s current softball manager.
      • Players must have Softball acumen and skill balanced with coach ability and a team first perspective on the field
    • Observations of other managers whose teams played against the player in the current season.
    • All Stars tryout session [Whether a tryout is required is age group specific and dependent on application volume].
  • Verification of age and residence by District 9 Little League (post-selection, pre-tournament) for the applicable age division.
  • Availability: Conflicts in your schedule must be declared in your Letter of Commitment as availability will be factored into a players selection. The experience of All-Stars is as much learning to form a team as it is succeeding in the tournament. Therefore 100% commitment is expected at all practices, tournaments, workshops and games.
  • Excused  absences include
  1. A family medical emergency
  2. An absence acknowledged in advance on the Letter of Player Commitment form.
  • Unexcused absences, at the discretion of the team manager and Redmond Softball VP, may result in removal from the team, limited playing time, etc.
  •  We want your players to come to events healthy.  In the event of player sickness or injury, please notify your team manager. Repeated sickness and/or injury absences may require a doctor’s note

Please Note:  Depending on the number of available and committed players at each level, Redmond Softball may not field a team at all age levels.

Please also keep in mind that many good players submit Letters  of Player Commitment each year who are not ultimately selected to All-Stars.  Your player’s selection, or non-selection, to an All-Star team is entirely dependent on the relative strengths and abilities of the players her age who submit Statements of Player Commitment, as determined by the Tournament Team Committee.  Not getting selected for All-Stars does not reflect how our coaches feel about your player as a person, or how much of an effort your player has put in to improve, does not preclude them from selection in the future and should not take away from what we hope has been a fun experience in the regular season.

Announcement of All-Star Teams

All-Star team rosters will be announced no earlier than  May 15.

Rosters of selected players will be posted on our website and announced on the Redmond West  home page

Verification of Age, Medical Release and Residency Requirements

If your player is selected for All-Stars, you will need to be prepared to submit proof of age and residency in order for her to participate on the team.

Little League International rules require that players provide, a Tournament Player Verification Form including proof of age and residence. Players are also required to fill out  a medical release form.

For proof of age, players who have been selected to an all-star team must provide an ORIGINAL birth certificate. It will be returned to you, but the ORIGINAL must be verified by District 9 staff.

For proof of residency, the easiest proof is if your child’s school is also within the league boundaries.  All that is required is a completed School Enrollment Form, available here.

If this form cannot be filled then multiple documents are required, and they have to be dated, or in force from the period between February 1 of last year and February 1 of this year. More information on Little League's residency requirements can be found here
